Ch3 87-104

Today in class we...

Played a game to practice solving equations including equations that contain decimals and fractions. To do so we divided the class into two teams, and raced to show the correct solution. This allowed us to answer problems (90, 93, 98 and 102).

Earned problems to skip from the remainder of the assignment through the game. Here are the problems that each class needs to do:

5th Hour Purple Team:100 B, 101A, B
5th Hour Gold Team:101A, B
6th Hour Purple Team:None!
6th Hour Gold Team:None!
7th Hour Purple Team:101A, B
7th Hour Gold Team:101A, B

This assignment (Ch3 87-104) is due on Tuesday November 30.

Passed back incomplete assignments and current grade sheets. Make up binders for this chapter are due on December 8.

Ch3 73-86

Today in class we...

Turned in Ch3 60-72

Played "Guess my number" and completed 78 and 79 together as a class to discuss writing and solving equations.

Completed 80-81 together in teams to explore the three different kinds of solutions for an equation:
--x=#, one solution, verified by substituting # for x and simplifying
--2=2, all numbers are solutions, verified by substituting multiple values for x and simplifying
--1=2, no solution,

Finished assignment by completing problems 73-77 and 82-86 on the worksheet

This assignment is due Wednesday November 24

Ch3 60-72

Today in class we...

Turned in Ch3 41-59

Worked together to complete 3-60 "The Dented Square".
Discussed common graphing mistakes by looking at 3-61, and recorded those mistakes in 3-63 learning log.

Common Graphing Mistakes to Avoid
-switching x- and y- axes
-plotting point incorrectly
-forgetting to label x- and y-axes
-scaling axes incorrectly
-not starting scales at (0, 0)

Discussed showing work while solving equations and checking solutions through problems 3-69 and 3-70.
Skipped 3-62 and made it bonus...complete only if you have time and want the extra credit points available.
Completed the remainder of the assignment: Ch3 71-72, 64-68.

This assignment is due Monday, November 22.

Complete Graph includes
--labeled x- and y- axes
--scale on x- and y- axes
--connected points (solid line)
--arrows at end of line
--line labeled with equation

*Completed Ch3 32-44, due Tuesday November 16
